football drill: Pass and Break Through

Description

In the drill, the area is divided into smaller sections, two of which each contain two defenders (red).

The drill starts with a blue player at one end. The pair's objective is to play past the defenders to the player (black) in the middle section.

After that, together with the central player (black), play the ball past the next defensive line to the other end.

Then new blue players set off trying to do the same towards the opposite end.

The black player remains continuously in their own lane. The defenders are also not allowed to leave their own area, but actively try to cover passing lanes.

Coaching key points
Eyes up before the pass: where is the space and where are your teammates? The central player must recognise the timing and move actively behind the line into the opening space. Movement off the ball
Progression
How did you make sure the next player was free before playing the pass? In what ways were you able to shift the defenders and open up the line? How do you cover the passing lane?
