Mark out an area of about 20 x 20 metres in the middle of the court. Divide the players into three teams of four. Two teams keep possession together, while the third team defends. At the start, the two teams in possession position themselves in different halves of the area, but once play begins everyone can move freely around the whole area.
The coach passes the ball to one of the two teams in possession. Players in possession have a maximum of two touches. The defenders try to win the ball or force it out of play. The team that loses the ball to a tackle becomes the defending team, and the other two teams continue keeping possession. If the ball goes out of play, the attacking team that touched it last starts defending. If a defender deflects the ball out of play, the defensive turn goes to the team of the player the ball came from. A third touch also turns that player's team into the defenders.
After the ball goes out of play or a touch violation, the coach gives a new ball to one of the two teams in possession. For example, play periods of a couple of minutes with a short break between them. In the second phase of the drill, raise the touch limit for the players in possession to three and compare when the defenders manage to press together.

- Key questions
- How can four defenders put the player on the ball under pressure when facing eight opponents? Who closes the next passing lane when the nearest player presses?
