Use one goal and roughly half a court. Mark a shooting line about 10 meters from the goal. One goalkeeper is in the goal and two goalkeepers stand beside the goal, one on each side. The goalkeepers at the sides have the balls. Six outfield players wait in a line behind the shooting line.
The goalkeeper at the side rolls the ball to the first player in the line. This player shoots first time from behind the line. The goalkeeper in goal makes the save. In the first phase, the action ends with the shot; the rebound is not played on. The next repetition starts only when the goalkeeper is ready and the previous ball is clear of the shooting line.
Rotation: the goalkeeper who rolled the ball moves into the goal. The goalkeeper who made the save moves to the side, and the goalkeeper who waited on the other side rolls the next ball. The shooter retrieves the ball and returns to the back of the line. In this way the goalkeepers take turns saving, passing and resting.
In the second phase of the drill, the shooter may follow up after a rebound that bounces forward. He has a maximum of two touches to finish. The action ends when the ball goes out of play, into the goal, or is controlled by the goalkeeper.
- Coaching key points
- Set position (ready stance) at the moment of the shot Positioning in relation to the ball and the goal Directing the save to the side
- Key questions
- Why should the goalkeeper stop and set before the shot? In which direction should the ball be deflected if the goalkeeper cannot hold it?
