Carrying Through Three Zones

Description

Divide the whole futsal court into three horizontal zones. The middle zone is about ten meters long. Both goals have a goalkeeper. The team in possession starts in its own end zone with a 2v1, in the middle zone with a 1v1, and in the attacking end zone with a 1v2.

The goalkeeper passes to a player in the own end zone. The attackers try to carry the ball into the middle zone, creating a 2v1 there. The ball can be taken into the next zone by carrying or passing. The player who passed is allowed to follow their own pass into the next zone. Only the player who carried the ball or the player who passed it there may cross the line; the others stay in their zones. This way the attacking end is reached with a 2v2. The ball may not be played back to the previous zone.

The attackers try to score. The attack ends with a shot, a turnover (ball won by the defenders), or the ball going out of play.

Rotation: return to the starting zones and the same goalkeeper plays in a new ball. Play a short series of attacks, then switch the attacking team. Also rotate the players' starting zones.

In the second phase of the drill, all attackers may move into the attacking end zone as soon as the ball has progressed there. The defenders still stay in their starting zones.

Coaching key points
Carrying the ball into free space Movement off the ball in a numerical-advantage situation Forward-oriented first touch
Key questions
When does carrying the ball open up a passing lane? How does the player off the ball help the ball carrier progress from one zone to the next?
