Mark out an area of roughly 30 x 20 meters and place a goal at each end. Play 3v3 with two goalkeepers. The defending team uses man-marking. The game starts with a throw from the goalkeeper to the wing.
The team in possession tries to score through free play. The players off the ball look for space behind their marker and offer a straight or diagonal passing lane. Players do not stay waiting in the same space as a teammate. After a turnover, play continues in the other direction. When the ball goes out, play restarts from the line (kick-in), and after a goal the opposing goalkeeper restarts play. For example, play periods of a couple of minutes.
In the second phase of the drill, add one outfield player to each team. Play 4v4 and restrict defending to the own half of the team that does not have the ball.

- Key questions
- When does space open up behind the marker? How can a player off the ball open up space for a teammate?
