Description

Use about half of the court and mark an end zone a few meters deep at each end. The middle zone stays clearly larger than the end zones. Each team has three players in the middle zone, a goalkeeper in an end zone, and a pivot in the opposite end. This means that one team's goalkeeper and the other team's pivot share the same end zone. No goals are needed.

The three middle-zone players of the team in possession play against two defenders. The third defender waits on the side, level with the middle zone. The restart comes from the goalkeeper in the team's own end zone. The objective is to pass to your own team's pivot in the opposite end. All three middle-zone players must touch the ball before the pass to the end zone. A successful pass to the pivot earns a point, after which the opposing goalkeeper restarts from the same end with a new ball.

On a turnover, the player who was waiting on the side joins in immediately. The middle-zone player who lost the ball steps out to the side, so the new team in possession again has a 3v2 numerical advantage. All three of its middle-zone players need a touch before the pass to the end zone. The players in the end zones stay in their zones and do not challenge each other for the ball. After the ball goes out of play, the opposing goalkeeper restarts.

Rotation: play rounds of a few minutes and switch the pivots and the middle-zone players between rounds. In the first phase, the goalkeepers stay in their ends.

In the second phase of the drill, the team that scores keeps the ball. The pivot and their own team's goalkeeper swap roles as the end support player: the ball is now played back to the end where the sequence started. All three of the team's middle-zone players touch the ball before the next pass to the end zone.
