ice-hockey drill: Free Puck Carrying Course

Description

Cones, poles and other obstacles are spread out freely in one area, for example the end zone. Every player has a puck. Players carry the puck between and around the obstacles along a route of their own choosing, trying out different turns and changes of direction. Everyone moves at the same time, so players need to keep their head up and avoid each other.

If there are a lot of players, a few players skate the course at a time, and groups switch on the coach's signal. Occasionally a short break is taken, during which the coach demonstrates a new turn to try out.

In the second phase of the drill, the coach gives a task, for example going around each obstacle with a different turn, or carrying the puck only on the backhand side.
