Description

Players are split into pairs, and the pairs spread out across the entire ice. Each pair has two cones a few meters apart. One player skates a figure-eight around the cones, while the other stands to the side with the puck. The player on the side passes to the skater, who receives the puck, passes it back, and continues around the next cone.

Turns are made skating forward on the outside edge. Roles are switched roughly every minute, and the passing tempo is increased as players improve.

In the second phase of the drill, the player transitions to backward skating at the cone and receives the pass while skating backward.

Coaching key points
Balanced stance through the turn, knees bent Head up, looking at the passer Receiving and passing while in motion
Key questions
Why does bending the knees help in a tight turn? Why is it beneficial to lift your head up before the turn?
