1v1 from the Corner to the Net
© CoachTruly.com- Description
Play to one net, with a goaltender in the net. The defenseman starts at the edge of the faceoff circle on the net side, and the forward starts with the puck in the corner on the goal line extended. The drill begins when the forward takes off. The defenseman skates against the forward and tries to take the puck away, while the forward carries the puck toward the net and takes a shot.
The battle continues until the puck is in the net, the shot is blocked, the defenseman skates the puck out of the situation, or the coach whistles after a short moment. If a goal is scored right away or the puck gets away quickly, the coach can feed in a new puck. Each player takes turns playing forward and defenseman.
In the second phase of the drill, goals are counted, and the teams compete against each other.
- Coaching key points
- Defense: stick blade on the puck with one hand at the start of the battle Two hands on the stick in front of the net and clearing loose pucks Keeping the forward away from the front of the net
- Key questions
- Why is it worth getting the stick blade on the puck before the body? What does the defenseman do when a loose puck is left in front of the net?
