Description

Played in a half rink into one goal, with a goalkeeper in net. The defenders' line starts in the top corner with the ball. The forwards' lines are at the center line, one on the near side and one on the far side.

The defender plays a long diagonal pass to the forward on the near side at the center line and immediately starts back to defend in front of the goal. At the same time, the forward on the far side breaks toward the goal. The near-side forward carries the ball toward the goal, and the forwards play a 2v1 to a shot.

Rotation: the defender goes to the near-side line, the near-side forward goes to the far-side line, and the far-side forward goes to the defenders' line. Switch sides every few minutes.

In the second phase of the drill, the forwards are only allowed one pass before shooting.

Coaching key points
Attack: drawing in the defender with the ball carry Passing to the free player at the right moment Defender: quick transition from passing to defending
Key questions
When should the ball carrier pass, and when should they continue on their own? Where should the defender position themselves when facing two attackers?
