Description

Two teams of five players, red and blue. The rink is divided into two zones. In one zone, five reds stand in a ring and three blues are inside the ring. The other two blues wait in the other zone.

The reds pass the ball around the ring and the blues try to win it. When a blue wins the ball, he passes it to the waiting blue in the other zone. The three blues skate after it and form a five-player ring there. Three reds follow and defend inside the ring, while two reds stay waiting in the first zone. When the reds win the ball, the same thing happens in the other direction.

The zones are roughly half-rink sized. Play in periods of a few minutes.

In the second phase of the drill, the team that wins the ball must get the ball to the other zone with a maximum of two passes.

Coaching key points
Transition to offence: get the ball away from pressure to the other zone immediately Transition to defence: the three closest players must start pressuring immediately after losing the ball Passing play in a power play situation inside the ring
Key questions
What do you do first when your team wins the ball? Who should start pressuring when the ball is lost, and who should stay back?
