Defending 1v2 and Counter-Attack to Small Goals
© CoachTruly.com- Description
Mark out an area of about 15 x 10 meters. At one end of the area there is a big goal with a goalkeeper, and at the other end there are two small goals, one on each side near the boards. Two forwards attack the big goal, and one defender tries to prevent the shot. If the defender wins the ball, they attack either of the small goals. The line of forwards waits with balls between the small goals.
The attack starts when the first player in line carries the ball toward the big goal and the second forward joins the attack. The defender quickly closes down the ball carrier and steers them toward the boards. The ball carrier passes to the other forward, who takes the shot. The round ends with a goal, a save, or the defender's counter-attack.
Rotation: the defender joins the line of forwards, the forward who took the shot becomes the new defender, and the other forward joins the line.
In the second phase of the drill, play 2v1 in the opposite direction: two defenders try to win the ball from one forward and attack the small goals.

- Key questions
- How do you quickly get close to the ball carrier? Which direction should you steer the ball carrier when you're alone against two attackers? How do you see which passing lane you can cut off?
