Description

Played in a half rink into one goal, with a goalkeeper in net. The attackers' line starts with balls at the center line on the lower side. The defenders' line is at the center line in the middle of the rink.

The attacker passes to the defender and starts moving toward the goal. The defender passes the ball back into the attacker's path and defends immediately. Play 1v1 until the attacker takes a shot or the defender wins the ball.

Rotation: the attacker joins the defenders' line and the defender joins the attackers' line. Switch sides every few minutes.

In the second phase of the drill, the defender starts from the center line on the upper side, meaning they have to cover a longer distance to get in front of the attacker in time.

Coaching key points
Defending: closing the gap immediately after the pass Steering the attacker toward the boards, away from the front of the goal Stick and body positioning in a 1v1 situation
Key questions
Why is it a good idea to steer the attacker toward the boards? When should the defender try to take the ball, and when should they wait?
