Description

Full rink, goalkeeper in the attacking direction's goal. Two defensemen are at their own end at the level of the goal area, one on each side, and the lower defenseman has the ball. The center is just over the center line on the attacking side. The forward is in front of the opponent's goal. The rest wait in line behind their own goal.

The center comes down to his own side and the lower defenseman passes to him. At the same time, the upper defenseman moves up along the boards. The center passes to the rising defenseman, who carries the ball to the attacking end and passes it to the forward coming in front of the goal. The forward takes a shot.

Rotation: the lower defenseman moves up to become the upper defenseman, the upper defenseman becomes the center, the center becomes the forward, and the forward goes to the line. A new lower defenseman comes from the line. Sides are switched every few minutes.

In the second phase of the drill, a defender comes into the neutral zone and tries to intercept the pass to the center.

Coaching key points
Breakout through the middle Center's timing: comes down when the defenseman is ready to pass Defenseman's rise into the passing lane along the boards
Key questions
Why is a breakout through the middle more dangerous for the opponent than playing solely along the boards? When should the center come down to ask for the ball?
