Description

Play in an area of approximately 20 x 20 meters, for example a half rink, with a goal and goalkeeper at each end of the area. Mark a narrow wing lane with cones along each side board. Play 4v4, with each team having a joker positioned by their own goal line next to their own goal. The joker always plays with the team in possession at their own end and offers a passing option behind the ball.

The joker may only pass the ball forward into the wing lane. A goal only counts if the ball has gone through the wing lane during the attack. For example, a player passes to the joker, the joker passes into the wing lane, the wing player carries the ball and passes it into the middle, and the player in the middle takes the shot. When the other team wins the ball, the same rules apply to them.

Rotation: shifts are short, for example around half a minute. On the change, a new group of four comes onto the field, and the jokers always switch with the players coming off the field. If there are few players, play to a set number of goals, for example.

In the second phase of the drill, the joker may pass anywhere, but the ball must still go through the wing lane before a goal can be scored.

Coaching key points
Attack: passing options forward, backward and diagonally Turning the ball back through the joker Creating width using the wing lane
Key questions
How do you time your movement to create width? Where do you position yourself when the ball is in the wing lane? Why can turning the ball back open up a path forward?
