3v2 Counterattacks End to End
© CoachTruly.com- Description
Full rink, goalkeepers in both goals, and balls placed next to the goals. Two blue defenders start in the left end zone and two red defenders start in the right end zone. Each pair first defends in their own end zone and then attacks. The red line is at the top edge on the right side of the center line, the blue line is at the bottom edge on the left side of the center line.
The goalkeeper in the right goal passes the ball to a red player. Two reds attack the left goal and one player from the red line joins in: 3v2 against the blues. The attack ends in a shot or when the blues win back the ball.
After that, three reds go to the red line and two new reds from the line go to the right end zone as defenders. The goalkeeper in the left goal passes the ball to a blue player, two blues attack the right goal and one player from the blue line joins in: 3v2. The drill continues in this alternating fashion.
In the second phase of the drill, the attack has a limited time to get a shot off, for example around ten seconds.
- Coaching key points
- Attack: quick transition from defense to attack 3v2: width and depth in the attack Timing of the third attacker joining the rush
- Key questions
- Why should the attack be taken to the goal before the defense has time to organize? Where should the third attacker position themselves so that the two defenders have too much to cover?
