Description

Drill progression:

  • Players are divided into two teams.
  • Players receive their own number (e.g., 1–5).
  • The objective is to maintain possession with your team and play passes in sequence:
  • → 1 passes to 2, 2 passes to 3, etc.
  • The team scores a point when the complete chain 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 5 is executed correctly.
  • If a team loses the ball, they must win the ball back and continue from the number where the passing chain was interrupted.
  • E.g., if number 3 received the ball but lost it, the team must first get the ball back to number 3 and continue from there.
  • The game is played with a time limit (e.g., 3–5 min) or to a certain score.
Quality factors
Anticipatory positioning and movement off the ball → make yourself available at exactly the right time. Observation before receiving the ball → where your number is, where the opponents are. Quick reaction to ball loss → immediate counter-pressing and return to the correct number.
Key questions
Did you know who you had to pass to before you received the ball? Did you also know where they were? How quickly did your team react to losing possession?
