Avoiding offside with finishing

Avoiding offside with finishing

Description

Drill for learning offside. Cones represent opponent players.

  1. The drill starts with the blue player's pass to the red player in the center.
  2. The red player plays to the black player, who gives a return pass back to the red player.
  3. The red player plays a through ball past the cone. The black player runs around the cone, timing their run so they are not offside.
  4. Finishing.

Rotation always one step forward following the passes.

Quality factors
The run is timed to the moment of the pass, not before. The player scans the cone (defensive line) before making the movement.
Key questions
Where on the line were you when the pass was made? Did the pass come at the right time for your movement or did you have to wait?
